Wendell Ray Rhoden

Wendell Ray Rhoden of Macclenny passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the age of 63. One of 5 children, he was a Christmas baby, born December 25, 1959 to Mr. Harry and “Janie” (Harris) Rhoden. Wendell worked as a carpenter for all his life and was one of the most skilled in the area. Some would go as far as to call him a “master” carpenter. Outside of his work life, Wendell Ray was the life of the party. He loved socializing with family and friends and somehow, the party always found him. He also enjoyed fishing in his free time.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by a son: Bryan (Michelle) Thornton of Englewood; his mother: Janie Rhoden of Macclenny; grandchildren: Matthew Thornton, Katalyn Thornton, Megan Packer, and Charity Thornton; great-grandchildren; David Leonard, Johnathan Leonard, Skyler Leonard, Everleigh Thornton, and Chyanne Leonard; siblings: Judy Young, Tammie Griffis, Kim Bennett, and Larky Wilkerson all of Macclenny; as well as a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Rogers, Dennis Johnson, Darren Johns, Ray Griffis, Shawn Sanders, and David Johns.

Funeral services to honor Wendell Ray’s life will be held Monday, December 18, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Cheshire officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest following the service at Macedonia Cemetery.
