Barbara Sue Briscoe, 81 of Baldwin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023 under the care of Community Hospice at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital. Born August 14, 1941 in Cobb County, Georgia, Barbara was a long-time resident of Duval County. She would marry Mr. John “Tom” Briscoe and together they would spend over fifty-one years of marriage.
Barbara loved the outdoors. Together with Mr. Tom, they managed the “Island Hunting Club” in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Many long hours and lots of hard work went into maintaining the club for several years. When at home, Barbara enjoyed keeping the house up and tending to her flowers. Her pride and joy, however, were her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents: Bill and Grace (Hunter) Harper; multiple siblings; and her daughters: Lynn Sessions and Sharon Gnann.
She is survived by her beloved husband: John “Tom” Briscoe, Sr. of Baldwin; sons: Rodney Amburgey and Thomas Briscoe both of Baldwin; grandchildren: Keri Charles, Kassandra Gnann, James Amburgey, Preston Sessions, and Trisha Cooley; seven great-grandchildren; brother: John (Annette) Harper of Daytona; as well as extended family members.
A private memorial service to honor Mrs. Briscoe’s life will be held at a later date.
