Bro. Bernard Orval Hurd, age 85 of Glen St. Mary went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Community Hospice Hadlow Center for Caring. Born in Castlewood, Virginia on August 7, 1936, Bernard was one of five children born to the late Walter and Lilly (Bise) Hurd.
Brother Hurd would start his evangelical ministry at the young age of twenty five and it would continue until his passing. Along with his wife, Brother Hurd would travel across the country, sharing the word of God thru song. They would continue this for many years, being joined by their children as they came along. Over the course of their career, they would record nine southern gospel albums as ‘The Singing Evangelists’. Later in life, they would share their ministry singing at nursing homes. They would settle in Baker County over thirty years ago and were longtime members of Christian Fellowship Temple.
Along with his ministry, Mr. Hurd was known as a master cabinet builder. To most that knew him, he had a calm, quiet nature, only getting excited for the Lord, but those closest to him knew that he loved to crack jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: John Hurd, Eva Mae Tate, Ruth (Walter) Bishop, and Harold Dean Hurd; and a son: Kenneth Hurd.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of sixty nine years: Mrs. Frankie (Heaton) Hurd of Glen St. Mary; children: Richard (Tammy) Hurd and David (Beth) Hurd both of Jacksonville; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and close friends.
The family will be receiving friends Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Christian Fellowship Temple. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Thomas and Pastor Timmy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow the conclusion of services at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Middleburg, Florida.
