Betty Jean Young, 90 of Macclenny passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Community Hospice – Bailey Center for Caring in St. Augustine. Betty was born in Mooresville, North Carolina on June 8, 1930 to the late Mr. Henry and Wilma (Moore) Davis Sr., one of four children. She worked for many years at a cotton mill in North Carolina and was lucky enough to meet Elvis Presley on a visit he made to the mill in the 1950’s. She eventually settled in Baker County where she enjoyed the later years of her life. She was an attending member of Christian Fellowship Temple for several years and loved her church family and pastors. In her free time, Ms. Betty enjoyed playing bingo, going fishing, reading, and playing games with her grandkids and great grandkids. She will be remembered as a sweet and caring soul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Bobby Davis Sr. and Henry “Mike” Davis Jr.; and a close companion: C.M. Collins.
She is survived by her daughters: Melissa (Paul) Hall of Palm Coast, Kim Hall of Winston Salem, NC, and Vicky Young of Tyro, NC; grandchildren: Shaun Chastain, Joshua (Kayla) Chastain, and Marissa Baker; great grandchildren: Sophia Chastain, Maggie Chastain, and one on the way, Jonah Chastain; sister: Donese Winkler of Jacksonville; and numerous extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home with Rev. Donese Winkler officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Manntown Cemetery.
