Clarence Loren Thornton, age 81 of Bryceville passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City. He was born in Duval County on February 10, 1940 to the late Mr. Clarence R. and Leona (Boyd) Thornton, one of four boys. He would go on to proudly serve with the United States Marine Corps and later would work for the Florida Department of Corrections as a vocational instructor before his retirement. He worked as a mechanic for many years and was a member of Local 673 Operating Engineers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children as they were coming up. Clarence was an old fashioned, hardworking type of man. He loved his family, and especially the individual quality time he got to spend with each of his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Earl (Estelle) Thornton and Willard Douglas (Anna Joyce) Thornton; and three children: David C. Thornton, Lorie Lee Thornton, and Mary Denise Hutto.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Mrs. Doris (Surrency) Thornton of Bryceville; daughters: Dorothy Dee (David) Gomillion and Michelle Thornton all of Bryceville; grandchildren: David (Brittany) Gomillion, Krissi (Larry) Gomillion, Shane (Tori) Gomillion, Sonny (Beth) Aman, Christopher (Kendra) Thornton, Jessie (Reyna Roland) Aman, Brittany Hutto, Cody (Amber Watson) Hutto, and Hailey (Reese Hollie) Hutto; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Gomillion, Savannah Gomillion, Lauren Steinmeyer, Lane Gomillion, Lucas Gomillion, Raylon Aman, Tyler Aman, Aubrey Thornton, Lawson Aman, Shailey Williamson, and Jayden Hutto; brother: Jimmie Ray (Jean) Thornton of Jasper; as well as numerous extended family members.
Private funeral services will be held at South Prong Cemetery with Rev. Richard Fish officiating.
