Derek Dwayne Sapp, 41 of Glen St. Mary passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital. Derek was born in Jacksonville on March 23, 1979 to Mr. Buddy and Alice (Moody) Sapp. He was a lifelong resident of Baker County and a 1998 graduate of Baker County High School. Derek loved being a father and spending time with his children. He coached his son in little league football all the way up until high school. He was dedicated to his work driving a truck for FedEx and eventually becoming a regional trainer for the company. He was highly respected by coworkers for his skill and dedication. Derek lived for the outdoors. He was an avid dog hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his time in the woods and on the water and took part in many bass fishing benefit tournaments. Everyone loved to be around Derek and anytime you saw him, he had a smile on his face.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years: Mrs. Brandy Sapp of Glen St. Mary; children: Brayden Sapp and Alexus Uribe; parents: Buddy and Alice Sapp of Macclenny; sister: Kris Ann (Franklin) Canaday of Macclenny; nieces and nephews: Kiersten Canaday, Kendall Canaday, and Ethan Canaday; as well as extended family members and several close friends that were like family.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Sapp Cemetery, Raiford. The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 10:30 AM until the time of service. All friends are invited to attend and share stories and memories of Derek.
