Johnny Lee Greene

Johnny Lee Greene, age 81 of Spring Creek passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2022. Born in Moultrie, Georgia on September 14, 1940, Johnny was the son of sharecroppers, the late Julius and Gussie (Carnes) Greene. Johnny would dedicate many years and was a well trusted employee of Miller Brewing in Albany, Georgia. After his retirement, Johnny and his wife Ettie Ruth moved to back to her home in Wakulla County. He would detail cars and mow lawns during retirement to keep himself busy. He was an avid fisherman and was known as the “Catfish King” in Doerun. He also enjoyed keeping a garden. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a wonderful husband, father, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Julius “Bill” Greene, William Greene, Ray Greene, Julie Greene, and Clara O’Neal; a daughter: Debbie Greene; great-granddaughter: Macie Rae Griffin; and his former wife and mother of his children: Jean Register.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly thirty-five years: Mrs. Ettie Ruth Greene; children: Michael (Angie) Greene of Axon, Georgia and Dana (Clint) Griffin of Waycross; children he gained by his and Ruth’s marriage in October of 1987: Brenda Greene and Betty (Steve) Nabors both of Tallahassee; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister: Dorothy Pearce of Moultrie; lifetime bestfriend: Bobby (Jane) Thompson of Donalsonville, Georgia; and his fur baby: Tabby Cat; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Debra Nell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clint Griffin, Griffin Bayes, Lee Smith, Chris Smith, Les Smith, Bobby Bayes, and Troy Porter, with Bobby Thompson as honorary pallbearer.
