Joyce Starling Hodges

Joyce Starling Hodges, age 88 of Jacksonville passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Haven Hospice Custead Care Center of Orange Park. She was born on September 14, 1933 to the late Mr. Robert and Viola (Conner) Starling and would grow up in the Baxter/Moniac area. Mrs. Joyce would go on to marry Mr. Everette Hodges and together they would raise a family and enjoy over fifty-eight years of marriage.

In her younger years, Joyce enjoyed maintaining her yard, mowing, and tending to her flowers. Over the course of twenty-seven years, she would also serve on the board of directors for Outreach of America Bingo. In her later years, Ms. Joyce would spend time with her daughters, going on shopping and lunch dates, as well as passing time on the porch swing. She will be remembered by her children as a dedicated mother who was willing to do whatever needed to be done at the drop of a hat.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband: Everette Hodges; siblings: RC Starling, James Starling, Edward Starling, Eldridge Starling, Edgar Starling, Aline Brown, and Doris Carter; and children: Wanda Jones and Glenn Hodges.

She leaves behind to cherish years of memories: her son: Donald (Jackie) Hodges of Baldwin; daughters: Brenda (John) Farrell of Orange Park, and Terry (Terry) Iverson and Carolyn (John) Jackson both of Jacksonville; fourteen grandchildren; a host of great and great-great grandchildren; sister: Bonita Kauffman of Glen St. Mary; as well as many close friends and extended family members.

The family will be receiving friends at Christian Fellowship Temple on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Thomas and Pastor Timmy Thomas both officiating. Interment will follow the services at Woodlawn Cemetery.
