Obituary

Richard William Perez, Sr. of Taylor passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Alice and T. O’Neal Douglas Center for Caring at the age of 80. Richard was born in Jacksonville on May 8, 1943 to the late Gustavo and Jessie Camilla (Ortagus) Perez, Sr. He would go on to attend school at Ribault High and was a member of the class of 1963. Richard would work in several fields over the years, including time as a officer with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and many years in insurance sales. Later in life, he would volunteer as a crossing guard with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.

An avid outdoorsman, Richard hunted all his life and loved to spend time in the woods. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. He was also skilled in carpentry work. He will be remembered for his caring nature and fun-loving personality.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.

He leaves behind to cherish years of memories; his loving wife of seven years: Carmen Perez of Taylor; son: Richard Perez, Jr. of Green Cove Springs; daughter: Denise (Johnny) Brown of Bryceville; step-son: Nef (Lisa) Maldonado of Taylor; a host of grandchildren; sisters: Aggie Rowe, Angie Plath, Helen Perez, and Isabella Perez; as well as extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023 at The Lord’s Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Bobby Griffin officiating.
