Roger Doyle Woods

(E-8)1SG. Roger Doyle Woods, US Army, (Retired), age 72 of Sanderson passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Haven Hospice Custead Care Center in Orange Park. He was born in Sanderson on May 5, 1949 to the late Mr. Percy and Evelyn (Griffis) Woods. He was a lifelong resident of Sanderson apart from his years of service in the United States Army. Roger would proudly serve in Vietnam during conflict and would reach the rank of First Sergeant over the course of his twenty years of dedicated service. 

After his retirement from the US Army, Roger would work for a number of years for the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. In his free time, he enjoyed researching ancestry and learning about his family’s origins. He loved being outdoors, meticulously maintaining his landscaping and enjoyed fishing as well. He also like to tinker on small engines. Roger was a devoted husband, father and grandfather for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; and his grandson: Colby Keith Harris.

He leaves behind to cherish years of memories, the love of his life, wife of fifty-three years: Kathy (Raulerson) Woods of Sanderson; children: Nicole (Manuel) Nunez and Scott Woods all of Sanderson; grandchildren: Brandon Harris, Kalyn Nunez, Brittany Brock, Courtney Woods, and Caleb Woods; seven siblings; as well as a host of extended family members. 

The family will be receiving friends Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Community Full Gospel Church. Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 11:00 with Pastor Tommy Richardson officiating, with interment to follow at South Prong Cemetery.
