Ruth Greene

Ettie Ruth Greene, age 80 of Spring Creek, passed from this life on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Born in Spring Creek on January 5, 1944, she was the daughter of Isadore and Albertice (Martin) Porter. She would attend Wakulla schools and receive her cosmetology license from Lively Vocational Technical College. For many years she ran her own hair salon, “Ruth’s Beauty Salon” in Wakulla County. In her free time, she loved to garden and was known for her blueberries and rose bushes. Ruth loved to cook big feasts for family and friends and enjoyed entertaining them. She was gifted at crocheting and knitting and loved giving her creations to any and all who appreciated them. She also was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed making her daughters many of their clothes and dresses throughout their childhood. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Bertie Mae Hancock, Arko Porter, and Woodrow “Pap” Porter; her daughter: Debbie Greene; and her loving husband of nearly thirty-five years: Mr. Johnny Greene.

She leaves behind her children: Betty (Steve) Nabors and Brenda Smith both of Tallahassee, Dana (Clint) Griffin of Waycross, Georgia and Michael (Angie) Greene of Axom, Georgia; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; siblings: Isham Porter, Albert Porter, and Nancy Hamilton; as well as a host of extended family members and close friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Debra Nell Cemetery.
