Virginia Combs Obituary

Virginia Crews Combs, 89 of Lake City and formerly of Macclenny met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Lake City Medical Center with her loving family by her side.

Ms. Virginia was born March 17, 1930 in Taylor to the late Mr. Raiford D. and Mirtie (Rhoden) Crews, one of 5 children.

The most loving and caring woman you could know, Ms. Virginia was always ready to hug your neck and give you a kiss. She had a special way of making everyone feel important and could always make light of any situation. She could be referred to as an "Eternal Optimist". She owed this all to her faith in Christ.

Virginia was a graduate of the University of Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude with an education degree. She dedicated over 30 years to the Baker County School System, working as an elementary school teacher at Macclenny Elementary, as well as a music teacher.

In her free time, Ms. Virginia gave piano lessons, teaching generations to play. She was an ordained minister and a Sunday school teacher at Christian Fellowship where she was a long time member. She was always dressed to the tee, hair fixed, as well as her fingernails. You would never see her with anything out of place.

Ms. Virginia leaves a legacy of faith and hope that her family and all those who knew her can carry on for years and years to come.

She is preceded in death by parents; her sisters: Naomi Roberson and Mirtie Hoover; brother: James Crews; great grandchildren: Ashley Miller, Dean Autizer Jr., and Phillip Givens Jr.; and her beloved husband Mr. Cole Younger Combs.

She leaves behind to cherish the memories her daughters: Donna (Howard) Combs Miller of Switzerland and Carol (Bob) Combs Brown of Lake City; son: David (Gail) Combs of Macclenny; grandchildren: Susan Brown Touchton, Brandi (Kelly) Brown Everett, Kelli (Reeves) M. Miller, Bryan (Liz) Miller, Babbette (Dean) Autizer, Kerry (Terri) Miller, Shawn Miller, Amanda Marshall, Tara (Avery) Combs Richardson, Colby Combs, and Sarah Arnett; 28 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, sister: Norma (Jerry) Milton of Gainesville; as well as a host of other family members and friends.

The family will be receiving friends Wednesday, November 27, 2019 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Christian Fellowship Temple, Macclenny.

A funeral Service to honor the life lived will be held following visitation at 12:00 pm with Pastors David Thomas and Tim Thomas officiating.

There will be a meal provided at the church following the conclusion of the services.

She will be laid to rest in Taylor Cemetery, at 4:00 pm on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to www.christstarfish.org

Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. "Hank" Forbes Jr. and Hawke M.T. Forbes of Forbes Funeral Home. "With Your Family In Mind". 904-259-4600. Please leave your thoughts and condolences for the family in the online guestbook at www.forbesfuneralhome.net.
