Virginia Lois Smith

Virginia Lois Smith, age 63 of Taylor passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. She was born October 26, 1957 to the late Mr. Elic and Mary (Farris) Combs in Jacksonville. She had been a resident of Baker County for nearly the last twenty years and was an attending member of Taylor Church. Virginia loved to spend time with family and friends, but especially her grandkids. She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, and visiting the springs and the beach from time to time. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a loving and caring woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather: Ed Durrance; brothers: David Combs and Robert (Wanda) Combs; and sisters: Helen (Jesus) Ayala, Carolyn Dasher, and Linda Hughes.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years: Melvin Smith Sr. of Taylor; sons: Melvin (Angela) Smith Jr. of Taylor and Edward Smith of Jacksonville; daughter: Mary (John) Brazeale of Taylor; grandchildren: Destiny (Randy) Bosarge of Taylor, Alexis (Gene) Holman of Jacksonville; Shianne Brazeale of Taylor, Kayla Smith of Jacksonville, Justin Smith of Jacksonville, Shayla Brazeale of Taylor, Melanie Smith of Taylor, and Colton Smith of Jacksonville; nine great-grandchildren; sisters: Gaile (Charlie) Lyons of Orange Park, Bettye (Sonny) Rice of Jacksonville, Jackie Combs of Jacksonville, and Brenda (David) Grimes of Jacksonville; sister-in-law: Joyce Combs; brothers-in-law: Donald Hughes of Jacksonville and Keith Dasher of Hog Valley; her beloved dog Kiki; and other extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Cox officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place following the conclusion of services at Taylor Cemetery.
