Winston Schell Byrd, age 81 of Glen St. Mary passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Baker County, he was born on January 9, 1942 to the late Travis and Elvie (Anderson) Byrd.
Winston or “Schell”, worked for over forty years as a truck driver, dedicating time to Southern States Nursery, as well as Baker County Road Department. Schell was proud to serve his hometown of Glen St. Mary as the mayor for one term. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Albert Byrd, Early Byrd, Burly Byrd, Margie Griffin, Dorothy Dugger; son: Early “Muriel” Byrd; and his wife: Helen Byrd.
He leaves behind his son: Mark (Cari Lyn) Byrd of Jacksonville; grandchildren: Brandi Oca, Samantha Byrd, and Travis Byrd; great-grandchildren: Landen Oca, Gabriel Oca, Kolton Wilkes, Ava Donaldson, William “Liam” McFather V, and Joseph “Quinn” McFather; fiancé: Kathy Woods of Glen St. Mary; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Services will held Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Community Full Gospel Church with Pastor Tommy Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Manntown Cemetery.
